Charlotte Tractor Company was founded
by Bobby L. Cockerham Sr., in 1966 as Charlotte Tractor Sales,
Inc. In 1972, Bobby Cockerham Sr. purchased all remaining
stock in the corporation from Ford Motor Company. He changed
the company name to Charlotte Ford Tractor Sales and moved
the store to our current location on Starita Road.
On January 1, 1986, Charlotte Ford Tractor Sales purchased
Dixie Tractor and Equipment Company and opened Winston Ford
Tractor in Winston-Salem.
On January 1, 1994, Charlotte Ford
Tractor Sales purchased the assets of Brockman Ford Tractor
Sales, Inc., and formed Greensboro Tractor Company, an operating
unit of Charlotte Ford Tractor Sales.
On July 1, 1994, Charlotte Ford
Tractor Sales was merged into the leasing company, BOBCO,
Inc., owned by Charlotte Ford Tractor Sales, Inc. At this
time, Charlotte Tractor Company, Winston Tractor Company,
and Greensboro Tractor Company became operating units of BOBCO,
Inc.
On September 1, 1994, BOBCO, Inc.
purchased the assets of Reid Brothers, Inc., in Cornelius,
North Carolina, resulting in the formation of Lake Norman
Tractor Company. They immediately received the John Deere
Sales Agreement for Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.
